DEAR SUN SPOTS: You are always so helpful. I have questions regarding two pizza places.

The first one is Heathco’s at 375 Court St. in Auburn. I noticed there is a For Sale sign on the building. Does that mean Heathco’s Pizza is moving out?

My other question is about Sam’s on Main Street in Lewiston. They still have their old-fashion sign from the early days. Every time I drive by the place is dark and nobody is there. What is going on with that place? — No name, Lewiston

ANSWER: These are great questions! Anything pertaining to pizza is important in my book! I called Heathco’s Pizza and Variety and spoke with Mary Nicholson, owner of this popular spot along with her husband, Fred Heathco.

The entire business is for sale. This includes the equipment and recipes, and then there are the connections to a boatload of customers. The building, originally constructed in 1953, was completely refurbished when Fred and Mary bought it in 2007. A new concrete floor was put in at that time, along with new walls, windows, etc.

This store/eatery has been Mary and Fred’s baby for 15 years and they have served folks seven days a week. Now they are ready to make a change and take on something more slow-paced, do some traveling, and have more time to spend with the grandchildren.

Mary said, “We will not be the ones to close Heathco’s — it’s our pride and joy. We’ll keep going until the right person buys it. We want (somebody like) us — only younger!”

At Sam’s, another L-A institution, the Main Street shop has an ongoing staffing shortage, according to a spokesman at the Lisbon Street shop. It closes at 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and is closed Sundays. This is a sad situation indeed but know that you can get your Sam’s pizza and other favorites at the Lisbon Street shop.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a new mattress topper from Amazon that I will donate to a nonprofit or family in need. It’s queen size, 3-inch gel foam with a bamboo cover. I slept on it two nights covered with a mattress pad and sheet and realized it wasn’t what I wanted.

It is puffed up but I managed to roll it and get it back in the plastic wrapper. It measures 4 feet by 3 feet in its jelly-roll state and is bulky but not heavy. I can meet you in Topsham, Lisbon or Lewiston. Call me at 504-0545. — Karen, no town

ANSWER: I’m sure someone will scoop that up. Let us know what happens!
