Eric Saunders, from left, Dan Hillier and Chris Andreasen wrap Christmas gifts Tuesday at the Auburn fire station on South Main Street. Firefighters have purchased toys for 70 children from 29 different families during their annual “Truckload of Christmas” event. Staff from Auburn’s 10 public schools help firefighters identify families in need and then firefighters deliver toys when children are home from school. “We don’t want a child to go without a Christmas,” said Saunders. “We want to be sure everyone is able to experience that spark when kids come down and see gifts under the Christmas tree,” said Andreasen. Retired firefighter Jim Hart started the program about 10 years ago and firefighters raise money through Auburn Firefighters Local 797 to fund the program, said Saunders. Daryn Slover/Sun Journal
