CORNVILLE — A Cornville man was killed Saturday night when his car veered off the road, hit a utility pole and rolled over an embankment, police said.
Israel Parsons, 24, was killed in the single-vehicle crash, said Chief Deputy Mike Mitchell of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.
Parsons was northbound on Molunkus Road in Cornville at about 10 p.m. when his 2006 Toyota Matrix veered off the right side of the road, hit the utility pole and rolled down the embankment, Mitchell said.
Parsons, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was alone in the car. Sheriff’s deputies said they believed he was driving home. The crash occurred less than a mile from Parsons’ home.
Parsons was not wearing a seat belt and speed, alcohol or other drugs did not appear to be factors in the crash, Mitchell said.
The crash on the dry road knocked out electricity to one residence, and Central Maine Power Co. was called to restore power later Saturday.
