Nancy Hurd
AUBURN – Nancy Hurd died peacefully at her home, Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, with her loving family surrounding her.
Nancy was born in Lewiston on July 6, 1938, the first of two daughters born to Grace and Harry Henderson. She would eventually meet and welcome another sister into her life.
Nancy was educated in Auburn schools, except for sophomore and junior years at Old Town High School. She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1957. She graduated from CMG (CMMC) school of nursing in 1960.
Shortly after graduation, in December of 1960 she married the man that would stand by her side for 62 years, Robert Hurd. The couple moved to Old Town where Nancy worked at the James Taylor Osteopathic Hospital, while Robert completed his studies at the University of Maine Orono. The couple returned to Auburn where Nancy worked as a Registered Nurse, while raising a family. She was proud of her career. She worked at CMG starting in the pediatric unit, and eventually moving to the emergency room where she stayed for 16 years. She moved into occupational health nursing working at the Bates and Libby mills. Her final RN position and one of the most fulfilling, was working with the homeless and substance abuse population in Lewiston.
Nancy retired at the age of 62 and devoted her time to family helping raise her six grandchildren. Grandma role modeled unconditional love, compassion, acceptance and joy. Nancy had a large network of friends, many lifelong- including nursing alumni, childhood friends, co-workers and spiritual affiliate.
She loved to entertain, set a proper table, rearrange furniture and decorate. Nancy took particular delight in her excursions to the coast for lobster.

Nancy was predeceased by her parents; son, David Hurd; and sister, Linda Steele.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Robert; daughters Jill Hurd and spouse Ed Huggins, Lynda Goodman and partner Steve Stuart; sister, Patricia Calvo; niece, Denise Ballard and nephew, Jeremy Stone; her six grandchildren, Jon Mercier and spouse Melissa, Jamie Cormier and Spouse Chris, Zacharie Hurd, Jean David Hurd and Ruth Hurd and Andrew Goodman; great-grandchildren Calvin, Willa, Audra, Vera, Jessica and Juliet.
A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held Tuesday Jan. 10, at The Fortin Group Funeral Home located at 217 Turner St. in Auburn. Visiting will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at 11 a.m. Lunch will be provided after.
