SABATTUS — A public forum, Community Member Change Initiative: Community Garden Project, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Sabattus Town Hall, 190 Middle Road.

This forum will focus on the results of a community needs assessment delivered in November. Sabattus residents saw parks and recreation as an opportunity for change, according to a news release from Kelli M. Gilzow Stowell of Wales.

The call to action will explore how to work to increase engagement and usage as a channel for revitalization. These efforts surround the pillar of the framework representing the community at large.

This garden project aims to ignite conversations organized as a workshop series to design, develop and implement a sustainable community garden at the Sabattus Primary School, 36 No Name Pond Road, Sabattus.

This workshop series will promote a collective leadership framework alongside the community partners: Maine Environmental Education Association, St. Mary’s Nutrition, ReTreeUs, Regional School Unit 4, and Oak Hill Adult & Community Education.

Organizers aim to recruit volunteers as part of a steering committee for the project. Volunteers would be Sabattus residents as well as any interested Regional School Unit 4 tri-community members.
