My name is Jazz, I came from a shelter in NY where my owner surrendered me after 10 years together. That transition was very hard on me; I was angry that I was no longer with my human in the home I always knew. Because of my behavior, I was placed on NYC’s shelter emergency placement list. I was becoming more angry and sad every day in that busy city shelter. My friends at RPC saw me on the list and decided to take a chance on me and save my life. After arriving at RPC it took me a long time to become used to life here. At first, I would not let anyone in my cage even to clean! To help me, my friends at RPC gave me a quiet kennel in my own room, ordered me some special pheromone spray, and started me on anti-anxiety medication, but most importantly they gave me time. After many long weeks, I started to come around. I now allow my friends at RPC to clean my cage, and I’ll even ask for rubs and head scratches! I love my wet food and I am a social eater. I also love my raised bed. It makes me feel safe to be higher and observe what is going on around me. I am an independent cat and like attention on my own terms. In other words, let me approach you! Even after how far I’ve come, it may be too much to ask to have to share my new human with another cat or dog! So I will need to be the only fur baby. I would love a quiet home where I can live out the rest of my days in peace and comfort. Another move may be stressful for me at first but the staff here at RPC think I will come out of my shell and calm down even more once I get a new home. Responsible Pet Care of Oxford Hills is a no-kill, non-profit shelter and adoption center for cats and dogs, and the holding area for stray dogs for 12 towns in Oxford County.
