A list of what is needed for the Franklin County Animal Shelter and information on where to drop off these items and what times.

FARMINGTON — Coldwell Banker Sandy River Realty [CBSRR] is collaborating with the Franklin County Animal Shelter [FCAS] to gather items for donations to the shelter for the month of February.

During the entire month of February, customers of CBSRR are encouraged to bring items for donations to the local animal shelter. These items include:

  • cat litter [of any variety]
  • Purina Cat Chow [blue bags for adult cats, yellow bags for kittens]
  • wet kitten food
  • dog food [grain free, chicken free]
  • bleach
  • toys for cats and dogs
  • Nyla bones for dogs
  • peanut butter
  • blankets, towels, wash cloths or flat sheets.

Customers of CBSRR or members of the community are encouraged to bring any of these items to their location at 602 Wilton Rd. in Farmington. CBSRR will collect these items throughout the month of February, starting on Wednesday, Feb. 1, after which they will be taken to the shelter.

“We’ve done things like this before in the past,” a member of CBSRR stated. “It’s been a few years since we’ve done something like this, so we decided it was time to do it again. It helps them get what they need.”

FCAS relies heavily on community donations, whether it be cash donations or items that can be used in the shelter, as well as grant money. In December of last year, the shelter received grant money for its spay and neuter voucher programs. The same month, FCAS held a fundraiser where members of the community donated cash or items for the shelter in exchange for a picture with the Grinch.

FCAS is also holding a special Valentine’s Day fundraiser called “Paws for Love” on their Facebook page, where a $10 donation will get a picture of them and their pet posted onto their Facebook page for a contest.

“People can donate $10 to us, and then submit a picture of them and their pet or just their pet,” Kalista Werner, social media manager and kennel tech for FCAS, stated. “We post it on our Facebook page and then people can like it, and each like will equal a vote.”

The picture with the most likes will win a prize featuring animal treats and toys from the shelter as well as a special photo session with the shelter’s pet photographer. There will be two separate winners for dog and cat pictures. The submissions will close Feb. 13, with the winners being announced on Feb. 14.

CBSRR’s hours of operation are as follows. Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. CBSRR is not open on Sunday. For more information about the donations, you can reach them at 207-778-6333.
