The Valentine Social which was to have been given by the Cumjoyn class of the High St. M. E. Church this evening has been indefinitely postponed.
50 Years Ago: 1973
The youngsters who attend the Jewish Community Center Nursery School found out “what it’s all about” at a dentist.office this morning.
Accompanied by their teachers. Mrs. Vernon Poole, Mrs. Russell Jabout and Mrs. Patrick Lebel and JCC director Paul Jesser, the children toured the office of Dr. Fred DiBello at 145 Lisbon Street, Lewiston.
Dr. DiBello showed them how to properly brush their teeth and what the various equipment is for and he discussed with them the importance of dental health.
The visit was in observance of Dental Prevention Week.
25 Years Ago: 1998
The owner of G.H. Bass has agreed to transfer the shoe-manufacturing plant and its equipment back to the Wilton Economic Development Corp. after it vacates the building this summer, Senator Olympia Snowe announced Friday.
The nonprofit corporation constructed the mill in the 1960s, and eventually sold it to the shoe company for $1. It would only be fair for the company to return the favor by turning the facilities over to the Wilton Economic Development Corp. the Maine Republican said.
She hopes the deal will help find a new owner for the plant. The factory is the town’s largest employer with 350 workers.
