The Greater Franklin Food Council plans to hold its first Snowshoe Frolic and Garden Fair fundraiser Saturday, Feb. 25.

This interactive 5K snowshoe frolic will meander from the historical Whistle Stop Trail through Titcomb Mountain’s cross-country ski trails, according to a news release from Ellie Sloane-Barton, council coordinator.

After being in the snow, participants can walk over to the West Farmington Grange for the Garden Fair, which offers hot chocolate and soup. The fair includes a seed starting talk with Nick Rowley from Cooperative Extension, local music by Sagittarius Rising, a garden raffle, seeds for sale, free seed catalogs, kids’ activities, and local garden vendors.

Snowshoe Frolic and Garden Fair Schedule

• 10 a.m.: Snowshoe Frolic begins, registration at Whistle Stop Trail. The road to the parking area is across from the Grange and next to 113 Oakes St., Farmington.
• 11 a.m.: Garden Fair begins, West Farmington Grange, 4 Bridge St., West Farmington.
• 11:30 a.m.: Sagittarius Rising (musician duo), Grange.
• 12:30 p.m.: Seed starting talk with Rowley (Cooperative Extension), Grange.
• 1:30 p.m.: Raffle drawing, Grange.

Registration for the snowshoe frolic costs a $10-$25 suggested donation; the first 50 people will get a free council water bottle prize. The garden fair is free.

All funds from the event support the council’s mission to foster a healthy food system in greater Franklin County by bringing people together to ensure access to nutritious local food, support local farmers, and advocate for food related programs that strengthen local communities. The work is accomplished through the development of partnerships, outreach and education.
