Gloria A. Shoemaker

RUMFORD – Gloria A. Shoemaker, 69, of Lewiston, passed away on March 22, 2023 at the Rumford Community Home.

She was born on March 12, 1954 the daughter of Arthur and Lauretta (Douin) Arbour in Augusta. She attended and graduated from schools in Augusta before meeting and marrying her husband, Jon M. Shoemaker in Augusta on June 26, 1976.

After marrying, they moved to Lewiston where they raised their two children. Gloria worked many years for Pioneer Plastics and the Lewiston Fire Department as an administrative assistant. After Gloria happily retired, she enjoyed watching fireworks and hot air balloon launches during the summer with her friends.

Gloria loved to play cards and would often be found at the Bingo hall where she pursued one of her joys of dotting the cards. She had an infectious laugh that could always be heard throughout any room she was in and brought many people to be her friend.

Prior to her husband’s passing they made a memorable trip to Niagara Falls which was one of her favorite and usual stories she told whenever she could. The family also spent time in New Hampshire at a time-share they owned and made many memories there.

After Jon passed, she made many real life and online friends and was proud that she was so advanced in technology. However, most of all she loved her family. She talked to everyone about her grandchildren by updating them on what they were up to and how big they had grown.

She is survived by her daughter, Tracy and her husband Michael Kelly of South Portland, her son, Todd Shoemaker and his fiancee Angela Smith; and two grandchildren, Ryder and Zoey Shoemaker, all of Lewiston.

She was predeceased by her parents; and her husband, Jon in 2006.

The family would like to invite you to a time of visitation on Wednesday March 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at The Fortin Group Funeral Home, 70 Horton St., Lewiston. The burial will be at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery and private for the family.
