Gilberte F. Parent

LEWISTON – Gilberte F. Parent, 91, passed away at Montello Manor in Lewiston on Friday, May 19, 2023. Born in Lewiston, she was the daughter of Oscar Landry and Aurore (Lavoie) Landry.

She graduated from St. Dominic High School in 1950, received her R.N. degree from Maine Medical Center School of Nursing in 1954.

She married the love of her life, Newman L. Parent, on Dec. 14, 1974.

Worked in various fields of nursing from 1954 to 1984 when she became caregiver for her parents and in-laws from August 1984 until March 1997.

She enjoyed traveling in her motorhome with her husband throughout the United States and Canada; listening to classical music and audio books, thanks to the IRIS Network and its devoted staff, learned to type again and make use of the internet, in spite of her legal blindness.

Her greatest joy in life was giving unconditional love to her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending quiet time with her loving husband and communicating with those she loved.

Besides her parents she is also predeceased by her husband, Newman; an infant brother, Norman; stepson, Gerard N. Parent; and brother-in-law, Roger Drapeau.

She is survived by three daughters, Judith Veilleux and husband Pierre of Lewiston, Elaine Swift and husband Randy of Florida, and Lisa Ouellette of Old Orchard Beach, a son, Gerard Domingue and wife Carol of Old Orchard Beach; five grandsons, Phillip, Eric, and Jonathan Veilleux, Dylan and Austin Domingue, and two granddaughters, Meghan and Morghan Parent. She is also survived by three sisters, Muguette Bolduc and husband Robert of Lewiston, Doris Drapeau of Lewiston, Joline Bell and husband Norm of Auburn, a brother, Raymond Landry and wife Lillian of West Point, Texas; and many nieces, nephews; and cousins.

She will be sadly missed by her loving family and all those who knew her as the caring woman she was.

A graveside service will take place at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery on Friday, May 26, at 11 a.m. Arrangements are under the care of Albert and Burpee Funeral and Cremation Services, 253 Pine St., Lewiston, 782-7201.
