
Margaret A. Clements
RUMFORD – Margaret A. Clements, aka “Peggy”, passed away Aug. 5, 2023, at Rumford Hospital surrounded by family and close friends. Born in Waltham, Massachusetts, Peggy grew up in York Beach. She attended York High School (class of 1974) followed by the University of Maine at Machias (class of 1978). After graduating, Peggy became a teacher in Mexico, at the Dirigo High School in Dixfield where she taught Business and was assistant coach of the girls basketball team from 1978-1979. An avid advocate for Veterans, Peggy ultimately went to work for the Veterans Administration until she retired.
Peggy was happily married to her husband Ambrose “Amby” from September 1993, until his passing in October, 2000.
If you knew Peggy, you knew she always had a dog by her side. From childhood, her dogs enriched her life with their unconditional love and devotion, and she was just as devoted to them in return. She also enjoyed quilting, crocheting, camping, fishing, snowmobiling, four wheeling, and hunting.
Peggy is predeceased by her mother, Mary M. and father William R. Welch. She is survived by her devoted sister Marcia and her husband Stephen of Wakefield, Mass., her brothers William, Leonard, and Timothy, as well as many close friends, several nieces and nephews, and her puppies, Dudley and Jaxson.
Burial will take place at DeMerritt Cemetery Saturday, Sept. 30, at 11 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life luncheon at the United Baptist Church of Peru, 98 Main St, Peru, ME 04290.
