Doris E. Winter

CANTON – Doris E. Winter, 96, of Jay, passed peacefully with her loving family by her side on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023, at Pinnacle Nursing Home, from injuries she received from a recent fall.

Doris was born the daughter of Lillian Eldora (Young) Williamson and Chesley Williamson on Nov. 8, 1926, in Fayette, Maine. She graduated from Wilton Academy in 1945 with Honors.

She met and fell in love with Elvin Winter while working in Gardiner, Maine, and they were married on May 1, 1946. Together they had four children before their divorce in 1963.

Doris worked as a waitress at Lake Shore Restaurant and retired from Bass Shoe’s accounting department in 1985.

She is survived by her daughters Sherry (Raymond) Chabot, Trudy (John) Leen, Tammy Capen, her son Darryl (Belinda) Winter; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, stepfather Watt Gillespie, sister Janet Knowlton, and brother Douglas Gillespie.
