Rosalie M. Poland
WOODSTOCK – Rosalie M. Poland, 82, passed away peacefully on Dec. 8, 2023, holding her husband Leon’s hand and surrounded by the family that she loved so dearly.
Rosalie was born in Norway, Maine, to Rufus and Kerene Allen. She had two siblings, Rodney Allen, her beloved brother, and her sister Pearl.
She met her future husband, Leon while riding a school bus in South Woodstock. He kept teasing her, which of course, was the telltale sign of an immediate attraction. Later they met again at the Oxford County fair and dating began. The relationship blossomed and a year and a half later they were married in July 1957 and remained so for 66 years.
They had three children, Leilani, Lloyd, and Larry. Family life was filled with summertime swimming at the brook and the Head of the Lake in Bryant Pond and well as winter fun with sledding, snowmobiling, and playing in the snow.
For 25 years, she worked tirelessly to support Leon with his construction business and when they both retired, they were hardly ever separated.
She often said, she was the richest woman on Earth because she was blessed with a big loving family. And therefore, one of her greatest joys by far was the time she spent with her grand and great-grandchildren providing love, support and council … and at times, challenging questions designed to improve their actions. She loved them and appreciated the unique personality of every one of them.
She is survived by her husband, Leon Poland, Jr. and her three children, Leilani Poland, spouse Burt Bertram of Orlando, Fla., Lloyd Poland, spouse Jan Poland of Oxford and Larry Poland, spouse Gloria Poland of West Paris. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren … with one more on the way.
Per her wishes, a small family Celebration of Life will be held in spring/summer.
In lieu of flowers, Rosalie would be honored best by a donation to the Forestdale Christian School,
27 Perkins Valley Road,
Bryant Pond, ME 04219.
