LEWISTON — The first BatesCon 2024 is set for 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 18, in the Grey Cage, 124 Central Ave. on the Bates College campus.
The event, presented by the college’s Discoridians board game club, will include an open gaming area, artist and vendor booths, and keynotes.
This free event is open to Bates students and local community members.
Speakers include Keith Baker, a Bates graduate who is a game-designer and fantasy book author, and Alex Teplitz, another more recent Bates graduate who works in California in production and publication for Critical Role, a Dungeons and Dragons series, according to a news release from BatesCon organizers.
BatesCon 2024 plans to raise money for Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital through a charity called Extra Life, which benefits local children’s hospitals.
Outside the venue will be inflatables and food trucks.
Details about the event can be found on Facebook.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
