RANGELEY — Voters in Regional School Unit 78 will consider a proposed $5.7 million budget at a districtwide meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Rangeley Lakes Regional School, 43 Mendolia Road.
The budget approved Tuesday will go to a “yes” or “no” vote at the polls in Rangeley and Dallas, Rangeley and Sandy River plantations June 11.
Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Rangeley Town Office. Polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Dallas Plantation Town House and the Rangeley and Sandy River plantation town offices.
The spending package for 2024-25 reflects a $249,874.56, or a 4.57% increase, over the current budget.
If the plan is approved as is, the town/plantations would be assessed about $4.8 million, Business Manager Roxanne Tanner said.
There are some changes in salary costs due to a 3% wage increase for teachers and a $2 adjustment plus a 5% increases in wages for support staff, an increase of $88,285.20 over the existing budget, according to Superintendent Georgia Campbell’s letter to district residents.
“This year there is a decrease of $40,618.80 over last year in health and dental benefits due to some changes in staffing,” she wrote.
Other changes that affect the budget are:
• Higher energy energy cost.
• Higher state contribution of nearly $90,100, making it $379,833.48, because of higher in enrollment and the cost of special education.
• District being a minimum receiver of state subsidy.
• American Rescue Plan Act funds will end in September.
