WALES — The Mt. Abram boys won their third Mountain Valley Conference championship game of the 2023-24 school year, finishing the trifecta with a 12-0 victory over Oak Hill for the baseball title Saturday at Oak Hill High School.
Logan Dube paced the Roadrunners’ offense with three hits, including a double, three RBIs and two runs.
Dube also pitched the first three innings and combined with Payton Mitchell and Killian Pillsbury for a one-hitter. Dube allowed the lone hit — to Oak Hill’s Cooper Spencer — and struck out three. Mitchell fanned five in three scoreless and hitless innings, and Pillsbury retired the side in order in the seventh inning.
Brennan Mitchell drove in four runs and doubled to help Mt. Abram’s offense, while Ash Rollins tripled, drove in two runs and scored twice. Bryce Wilcox doubled, singled, drove in two runs and scored two, and Kaiden Longley also had two hits and scored three runs.
Raiders relief pitchers Landen Denis and Braden Dubuc struck out three batters apiece.
Oak Hill (12-4) will be the fifth seed in the Class B South playoffs, which it opens Tuesday at home against No. 12 Fryeburg (7-9) in a preliminary round game.
Mt. Abram (11-5) is the third seed in C South and hosts No. 6 Traip (8-8) in a quarterfinal Wednesday at 5:15 p.m.
SOFTBALL
HALL-DALE 8, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 1: The Bulldogs earned the Mountain Valley Conference championship by taking down the Phoenix at Oak Hill High School in Wales.
Ashlynn Donahue pitched a complete game and drove in two runs for Hall-Dale. In seven innings in the circle, she struck out three while allowing five hits and one run. Donahue was helped by a defense that turned three double plays.
Zoe Soule, Lucy Gray and KJ Greenhalgh each tallied a pair of hits for the Bulldogs.
Santika Hodgkin drove in Spruce Mountain’s lone run. Leah Burgess, Jazmine Pingree, Samantha Martin, Rylee Turner and Ashley Nelson had one hit each.
Both teams will host Class C South quarterfinal games. The top-seeded Bulldogs (14-2) will face No. 8 Mt. Abram (5-11), while the third-seeded Phoenix will welcome No. 6 Madison (8-8) to Jay.
