To the Editor:

The Board of Directors of the Bethel Area Chamber is pleased to announce that the planning for Bethel Summerfest on Saturday, July 20 is well underway and we encourage community organizations and businesses to join in the fun. The Chamber is orchestrating the event in cooperation with the Museums of the Bethel Historical Society, which have an extensive list of events happening on their campus.

The day will start on the Common (and at MBHS) at 10 a.m. with vendors – artists, artisans, food, and sponsor booths. There are still a few spaces available so, if you are interested, contact Cathy Howe at the chamber, 824-2282 for a vendor application. The vendors will remain on the Common at least through 4 p.m.

At 11, the Summerfest Parade will wind its way up Main Street and around the Common. The theme is “Celebrating the Olympics.” so we encourage folks to participate in what has become a summer tradition. Parade applications are also available at the chamber office. The parade lineup will begin at 10 a.m. in the River Lanes parking lot. Those participating must complete an application and agree to the insurance rules.

We are seeking a business, individual, or organization to create an Olympic float, where former Olympians can be featured. Invited are Leslie (Bancroft) Krichko, who competed in the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary on the US Nordic Ski Team; Anna Willard, who competed in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics in Steeplechase; and Frankie DelDuca, who competed in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics in Bobsled. There will be cash prizes for the top three floats – which will be announced after the Wildlife Show.

Once the parade is done, at noon, the crowd will enjoy the one-hour Wildlife Show on the gazebo and from 1-4 p.m., everyone can enjoy the music of “The Rad Band” featuring the talented Kevin O’Reilly, Doug Alford, Krister Rollins, and Russ Murley. During the short afternoon hiatus on the Common, we encourage everyone to enjoy the events and specials going on all around town.

At 6 p.m., bring your lawn chairs and blankets – and come enjoy the music of The Fossils right up until the traditional fireworks start at the Bethel Resort and Suites. A full and fun day is planned.

Putting on an event of this magnitude requires the support of many. Please consider offering 2-4 hours of volunteer time to help make the event successful. You can find the sign-up form at the event website:

The chamber staff, board, and volunteers are essential to the success. Business sponsors to be thanked are Mahoosuc Realty & Maine Ski Lodging Co., Oxford Federal Credit Union; Oxford Casino; Northeast Bank; Stephens Memorial Hospital; Renewal by Anderson, Rotary Club of Bethel; Good Food Store & Catering Co.; Sudbury Inn; Mainely Provisions; The Elizabeth Inn & Restaurant; Holidae House B & B; Stonybrook Campground, and Bennett Automotive & Power Equipment.

We are still seeking a Parade Sponsor and an Evening Entertainment Sponsor. Please contact if you have questions about these or may be interested. Find the full schedule of events at

We look forward to a fantastic Bethel Summerfest, and hope to see you there.
