Before he ships off to continue his career at Springfield College in the fall, Mt. Abram senior Morgan Thibodeau received one more feather to add to his cap for his high school boys soccer career.
Thibodeau was announced as the 2023-24 Gatorade Maine Boys Soccer Player of the Year on Friday. He is the first player from Mt. Abram to win the award.
“Morgan did whatever his club needed him to do to make the great run they did,” Winthrop coach John Beah said in a media release announcing the award. “He was probably the toughest to scout for me and my coaching staff because he would always just make the right soccer play whether he scored, assisted or had to drop back and help in the defensive third.”
Thibodeau racked up 30 goals and 14 assists this past fall, including taking the corner kick that was redirected in for the long goal in the Class C state championship win — another first for the Roadrunners. For his career, he scored 83 goals and added 52 assists.
“Great player, great student, great leader,” Mt. Abram coach Darren Allen of Thibodeau in a Facebook post about the award. “Morgan has worked so hard on his game. I am so proud of him and our team on our accomplishments this year.”
