TURNER — A home on Upper Street was destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon while the owners were on vacation, Turner Deputy Fire Chief Michael Nemi said.

The recently constructed home at 408 Upper St. had reinforced concrete walls and eight inches of blown-in insulation throughout which acted “almost like gasoline” and was impossible to get to, he said. The attached garage also had two fully finished rooms, one a home theater which had added insulation, he said.

“I’m just glad that on Father’s Day, that the many dads who came out to the fire went home safely,” Nemi said.

The names of the owner and the cause of the fire were not available Monday.

Assisting Turner Fire Rescue were departments from Auburn, Buckfield, Greene, Jay, Leeds, Minot, Monmouth, Sabattus and Wales.
