BETHEL — More than 100 Rotarians and friends gathered at Gould Academy’s Ordway Dining Hall on Saturday, June 8 for the 50th anniversary celebration of the Rotary Club of Bethel. Rotarian Dr. David Murphy was the evening’s Emcee, Rotarian Bruce Powell offered an invocation, Charter Member Les Otten was the guest speaker, and co-presidents Jean Benedict and Scott Hynek recognized District officials and members of neighboring clubs. We were honored to have three Charter Members and their wives/partners present. Fred Burke, John Gasser, and Les Otten were among the 20+ men who started the club in 1974. Many thanks to the organizing committee, Marilyn DiFillippo, Joan Nichols, Brenda Blond, Brandy Rodney, Michele Cole, Jean Benedict, Ellie Andrews, Richard Tummon, Robin Zinchuk, Kathleen Willis, and Mark Beck. A delicious dinner was provided by the Good Food Store & Catering Co. The amazing cake was made by the Grace Note Inn. What a wonderful evening!

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
