POLAND — The Regional School District 16 Budget Committee agreed to trim a little over $500,000 from the $29.3 million budget that failed voter approval June 11. The combined tally from Mechanic Falls, Minot and Poland was 736-913.
Directors will be asked to endorse the $28.8 million proposal at a special meeting Wednesday. It starts at 6 p.m. at Poland Regional High School.
The amended budget represents a 5.26% increase over the current budget.
The Budget Committee met Thursday in the Elm Street School conference room in Mechanic Falls and approved the following cuts, as recommended by the administration:
• Superintendent administrative assistant, Central Office.
• Assistant superintendent to curriculum coordinator, Central Office.
• Districtwide nurse.
• Two educational technicians.
• A half-time librarian at Minot Consolidated School.
• Districtwide technology coach.
• Capital Improvement Plan reduction.
• Insurance renewal reduction from 15% to 12%.
According to administration officials, lowering the property tax impact for the three towns was of vital concern.
The new budget will result in the following increases based on a $100,000 property value in the three towns:
Mechanic Falls, $157
Minot, $129
Poland, $190
If directors approve the amended budget, it will go to a districtwide meeting July 10 at Poland Regional High School.
A validation referendum will be held at a date to be determined.
