Where do you volunteer? Please list everything you do past and present.
I don’t get much volunteer work in nowadays. In the past I most of my volunteer work was with my church (Albany Congregational Church). I’m the treasurer of the church’s lady circle group. I used to help with church suppers when we still held them. I also used to help with our Sunday school.
While in high school I did lots of volunteer work with clubs particularly with National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America. I also was part of the Mahoosuc Community Band, we would perform for lots of different events. Currently I’m part of the Andover Service Circle.
We provide help to our community in several ways. We gift money to those who might need it for medical reasons, we do gifts for new babies in town, also we have scholarship for graduating seniors.
How many hours each week?
In the past I would say three hours weekly. Currently I would say one to two hours monthly.
What inspires you to volunteer?
I love being able to help others and being able to show community support.
Do you or did you have a paid career, too? If so, could you talk about it?
I started working as soon as I was able to. I worked as a cook for about 10 years. I just recently in the past year started working as substitute teacher/cook for MSAD 44. It’s been a big switch but I love working with children. The change has been challenging, I made the decision to change jobs so I could spend more time with my son.
What brought you to volunteerism?
I started volunteering at a young age and I love being able to help others which is definitely what keeps me doing it. I feel like my church is what brought me into volunteerism.
What basic skills do you need to do your volunteer work?
Really just good people skills. Just being friendly so you can connect with others.
Looking ahead what plans do you have regarding your volunteerism?
I’m hoping to get more involved with volunteering for my son’s school. Also continuing to be part of the Andover Service Circle.
