We only had a handful of correct answers and a few wild guesses for last week’s Mystery Photo of the dome at the original Spring House next to the former Poland Spring Bottling Plant in Poland. Both buildings are at the end of Preservation Way, near the Poland Spring Inn and Resort and a chip shot away from the golf course. Built in 1907, the Spring House and bottling plant are where the Ricker Family first bottled their water, which was then considered “therapeutic.” There was also a spa at the location that the rich and famous visited at the turn of the century. Our winner, David Tedford of Poland Spring, said the bottling plant, whose iconic tower can be seen in the background, was what tipped him off to its location. He is a history buff and volunteered at the Maine State Building just up the road for many years. The Maine State Building, Spring House, original bottling plant and All Souls Chapel are all overseen by the Poland Spring Preservation Society and are open to the public.
