GILEAD — The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a 28-year-old Gilead man wanted for firing shots at a man early Thursday morning and being involved in another violent confrontation at a residence in nearby Bethel.
Jacob McGurn is wanted on charges of terrorizing, domestic violence criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, domestic violence assault and driving to endanger, Maj. Dana Thompson of the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Thursday afternoon.
About 4 a.m. Thursday, Thompson said, deputies responded to reports of a weapons offense on Gilead Road in Gilead. They discovered McGurn had been at a residence, had a confrontation with a man and fired several shots in the man’s direction.
“McGurn ultimately fled the area as deputies were arriving,” the major said. “Deputies learned McGurn was previously involved in another violent confrontation at a nearby residence in Bethel.”
Evidence was collected at both locations and deputies seized several firearms.
“This case is still very much under investigation and deputies have been searching for him throughout the day today and continue to until he is located,” Thompson said.
He advised the public should not approach McGurn.
Anyone who knows his whereabouts or has pertinent information that may help locate him is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 207-743-9554.
