PORTLAND & ELLSWORTH — More than $69,000 in Maine Community Foundation grants aim to help strengthen nonprofit organizations and projects in Oxford County.

MaineCF’s Oxford County Grantmaking Committee awarded $64,527 to nine organizations through the foundation’s Community Building Grant Program. MaineCF donors with advised funds made two additional grants totaling $4,500.

2024 grants from the Oxford County Committee:

Bethel Area District Exchange and Food Pantry, general support, to feed and clothe the region in partnership with other local groups: $7,500.
Bethel Historical Society, general support, to engage the public in meaningful conversations about its shared history and to leverage its historic building to help meet present community needs: $10,000.
Denmark Arts Center, general support, to engage people with the arts through live music, theater, art shows, children’s programming, author readings and workshops: $7,500.
Maine Access Points, project support, to enhance community and public health through partnerships that support people who use drugs: $10,000.
Maine Dragon Boat Club, general support, to create an inclusive environment to unite as a team through dragon boating: $5,000.
Oxford Hills Community Gardens, general support, to improve community health by providing opportunities to build relationships, learn and grow food together: $4,527.
River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition, general support, to promote community health and wellness by partnering with organizations to improve prevention education, food and support services: $5,000.
Team Long Run, general support, to address the root cause of illiteracy through programs that get teacher-selected books into the homes of young children: $5,000.
West Paris Congregational Church, project support, for the WPCC Youth Hub, to provide community affirmation for teens in a safe space for relaxation, sharing food, playing a game and learning skills: $10,000.

From donor-advised funds (as of April):

Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine, project support, to provide support and resources to cancer patients and their caregivers: $2,500.
Celebration Barn Theater, general support, to bring live theatrical productions to Oxford Hills and workshops to regional schools: $2,000.
