WALES — Two dogs and a cat died Wednesday afternoon after flames ripped through a mobile home on Starlight Drive.

One cat was saved and there were no other injuries as fire crews from a half dozen towns battled the blaze.

Crews were called to 29  Starlight Drive after the home was reported to be fully engulfed by flames at about 4:30 p.m. The home is owned by a Wales fire captain, whose name was not immediately available.

“He came home and found it on fire,” said Wales Fire Chief Dimmick.

Nobody was inside when the home caught fire, the chief said. It appeared that the fire started in the kitchen area and quickly spread to the attic. The home was considered a total loss.

Wales fire crews were assisted by firefighters from Monmouth, Turner, Leeds, Green, Sabattus and Litchfield. The cause of the blaze is being investigated.

Starlight Drive is a dead end that runs off Andrews Road. The home is roughly midway between Andrews Road and the dead end.
