POLAND — Select Board members learned Wednesday night that the town’s request for $750,000 to renovate the Ricker Memorial Library is included in the 2025 Agricultural Appropriations bill recently approved by the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee.
The information was included in a letter to the town from U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine.
Collins’ letter said, “There are several more steps in the process before any appropriations bills are finalized” before sending it to the president for his signature. She said she wanted to let the town know of “this important development.”
Poland’s request is part of the $7.52 million approved in the congressionally directed spending for Maine community and municipal facilities.
Collins is vice chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
In other business, the Select Board approved the Fire Rescue Department’s request to shop for another utility vehicle. Its vehicle will be transferred to the Public Works Department.
The Public Works Department will transfer $15,000 from its budget to the Fire Rescue Utility Vehicle capital improvement fund.
The Select Board signed the warrant for the Regional School Unit 16 validation referendum scheduled for Tuesday, July 30, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
