TURNER – Michael R. Foglietta, 55, of Turner, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Andwell Hospice House in Auburn after battling an extended illness. He was surrounded in comfort by his loving family.
Michael was born in 1968 in Massachusetts, the son of Rupert and Lana Foglietta. He grew up in the town of Lynnfield, Mass., where he attended town schools. He graduated in 1987 from North Shore Vocational Technical Institute in Beverly, Mass., where he studied culinary arts. Michael worked as a chef in various restaurants early in his career. Later, he earned a management position for Sodexo/Marriott where he ran dining facilities at various corporate locations, and eventually became a function coordinator at Boston’s Museum of Science where he managed large scale events. In 1999, he sought a career change and became employed with The Home Depot where he worked for 23 years. He loved serving his customers at Home Depot, and they loved him, often seeking him out for assistance with their DIY projects.
Michael married his wife Erin Foglietta of Greene, on Dec. 4, 1993. They resided in Woburn, Mass., where they had their sons Justin and Joshua, and eventually moved to Maine in 2003 seeking a more quiet life. Michael enjoyed spending quality time with his family and was an avid outdoorsman: His favorite past-times were camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, woodworking, crafting, and making maple syrup and jewelry. He loved dogs and dogs loved him; he was a self-professed “Dog Whisperer,” always sharing an instant bond with every canine that crossed his path. Michael loved beautiful skies, particularly sunsets, always calling them God’s masterpieces. He gave his life to Jesus Christ in his early twenties and had a strong faith throughout his lifetime.
He was predeceased by his father, Rupert J. Foglietta of Georgetown, Mass., in 2019, and his mother-in-law, Grace Eileen Stevens of Greene, in 2017.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Erin Stevens Foglietta, of Turner; his son Justin D. Foglietta and grandson Kingsley J. Foglietta of Turner; his son Joshua M. Foglietta and his partner Julia Dyer of Readfield; his mother Lana Howell Foglietta of Georgetown, Mass.; his sister Lisa Foglietta Philpot and her husband Donald B. Philpot of Georgetown, Mass.; his father-in-law Lawrence P. Stevens of Greene; his sister-in-law Kelly Stevens Haskins and her husband Ken Haskins of Auburn; his niece Ashley Philpot Veiga and her husband Stephen Veiga of Georgetown, Mass.; his nephew Nicholas Philpot and his wife Emily Liggett Philpot of Baltimore, Md.; his niece Sarah Philpot Senning and her husband Benjamin Senning of Kennebunkport; his nephew Tyler Haskins of Auburn; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and extended family.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life for Michael will be held on Saturday, August 3, at 11 a.m., at Byfield Parish Church, 132 Jackman St., Georgetown, Mass. A private burial will be held at a later time for immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, Michael’s family is requesting donations be made in his name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Andwell Hospice House of Auburn, or the Androscoggin Humane Society of Lewiston.
