WILTON — Every Thursday morning from 9 to 10:30 a.m. one group of friends attend the SeniorsPlus “Coffee and Cribbage” event. They have been coming to play together every week since March, though the recurring event has been going for longer than that. The activity takes place at the SeniorsPlus Edcuation Center located in the Bass Building in Wilton.
SeniorsPlus Education and Outreach Specialist Jessica Bronish said that the event was inspired by the need for more opportunities for seniors to socialize and have fun locally.
SeniorsPlus offers many other events and classes such as the Loose Ends Knitting Group, Tai Chi for Health and Balance, and Intro to Ukulele. One popular upcoming class is Opening Minds Through Art, a once a week, six week workshop where people living with dementia or Alzheimer’s are paired up with a trained volunteer who will help them create art through the use of imagination rather than memory. This class will run Aug. 1 through Sept. 5 on Thursdays from 1–2 p.m.There is currently a need for both participants and volunteers. Anyone interested in enrolling a loved one, volunteering, or getting more information about this or other events can reach out to SeniorsPlus at 207-795-4010 or edcenter@seniorsplus.org.
