WINTHROP — One man was injured and two were displaced in a fire that destroyed a mobile home over the weekend, authorities confirmed Monday.

The fire was first reported just before 3:30 a.m. Saturday and quickly consumed much of the mobile home at 390 Turkey Lane, according to Winthrop Fire Chief Dan Brooks.

“With a lot of these mobile homes, it starts quick, it ends quick, but it engulfs the house quick,” Brooks said.

The two brothers living in the home initially escaped uninjured after calling 911 and reporting thick smoke filling the house, Brooks said. One of the men suffered minor burns after running back into the home to save the two dogs inside, he said.

Neither dog was injured in the incident, according to Brooks.

The fire was knocked down within half an hour by responding firefighters from Winthrop, Monmouth and Manchester. Crews remained on the scene for hours to fully extinguish the fire, Brooks said.

An investigation by the Office of Maine State Fire Marshal Saturday has left the fire’s cause as officially undetermined, though Brooks said it is not considered suspicious.

“There was just too many unknowns in the kitchen, too many places it could have started,” Brooks said. “We don’t feel there was anything malicious about it, but we weren’t able to really come up with an exact determination of where it started.”

The home was ultimately deemed a total loss and the two brothers living in the home were temporarily displaced, Brooks said.
