Through the season’s first 11 feature races in Pro All Stars Series Super Late Model competition, DJ Shaw finished runner-up six times and earned a handful of top-five and top-10 showings.

That’s a half-dozen times Shaw had to half-heartedly smile in victory lane while the driver next to him held the checkered flag and posed with the biggest trophy.

On Saturday at Seekonk Speedway in Massachusetts, it was finally time for Shaw to clutch the checkered flag and smile fully.

The current series points leader won the 150-lap Bay State Summer Classic, topping a 15-car field that included four drivers that Shaw had previously shared victory lane with, in Eddie MacDonald, Ryan Kuhn, Johnny Clark and Joey Doiron. MacDonald was Saturday’s runner-up, Kuhn was fourth behind David Darling, and Clark and Doiron finished sixth and seventh, respectively.

Shaw became the 10th different winner in the season’s first dozen races. Doiron and Derek Griffith have each won twice. The series’ next three races will all be at Oxford Plains Speedway, with a 150-lap feature this coming Sunday, as well as 200-lap open race Friday, Aug. 23, to open the weekend for the Oxford 250 on Sunday, Aug. 25.

MORE PARITY AT OPS

The spreading of the wealth in SLMs on the PASS tour is nearly matched in the division in Oxford Plains’ Oxford Championship Series action.

On Saturday night, Dalton Gagnon picked up his first feature victory of the season to become the eighth different winner this year. Gagnon shared the podium with runner-up Alan Tardiff and third-place finisher Ryan Littlefield. All three drivers entered the weekend outside the top 10 in the division’s point standings.

Points leader Trevor Sanborn — one of two repeat winners this season, along with Austin Teras — finished 11th, while Teras was 13th out of 27 cars.

Other winners Saturday night included: Addie McDaniel (Mad Bombers), Cam Childs (Street Stocks), Logan Spencer (Thunder Stocks), Jordan Russell (Limiteds), Cody Childs (Rebels), William Barker (Cruisers) and Rylee Childs (Rookies).

WISCASSET WINNERS

The Super Streets got a turn in the spotlight at Wiscasset Speedway on Saturday. The Group 1 division competed in Ward & Sons Builders 100, with Bubba Pelton topping the 19-car field.

The night’s other winners were Jamie Wright (Pro Stocks), Zach Audet (Thunder 4 Minis) and Ben Burgess (4-Cylinder Pros).
