WEST PARIS — A West Paris Water District pump station has been repaired and chlorination of the water has begun in hopes of lifting the months-long boil water order in August, according to water district superintendent Bill Gardner.
A brand new flow meter was also installed. This week, a company will be cleaning out the water district’s reservoir tank of debris and bacteria and excess water will be pumped off of the roof. Then repairs will be made to the reservoir and its roof, followed by more chlorination of the water.
“Hopefully that’s our path to lifting this boil water notice,” Gardner said at the West Paris Select Board meeting Thursday.
Testing is showing that the chlorine is killing bacteria in the water, Gardner added.
“We’re definitely on a good path here,” he said.
“You guys are doing a good job,” Downing said. “We’re starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.”
West Paris has been under a boil water order since April and E. coli was recently found in the water.
The West Paris Water District Board of Trustees also held an emergency meeting Thursday in order to hire Norway accounting firm Hoisington and Bean to reconcile its accounts.
The district last had an audit in 2019, trustee Sonya Tardif said.
Tardif was appointed by the select board as trustee earlier this year after the resignation of Bill Grover left the board with only one trustee, Brandon Ballweber, and without a quorum needed to conduct business.
The West Paris Select Board will next meet at the town office at 5 p.m. Aug. 8.
