AUBURN — Edible Plants: From Garden to Table program is set for 4-5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, in the Androscoggin Community Room at Auburn Public Library at 49 Spring St. The program also will be offered via Zoom.
Presenter Jeri Maurer of Leeds, an avid gardener for more than 50 years, can often be found taking care of her gardens.
“Although many of us consume flowers without recognizing it (think artichokes, herbal teas, and broccoli), flowers have been used in food preparation throughout history. We will learn the dos and don’ts of using flowers to keep our family and friends safe and explore a dozen familiar garden flowers and how to use them in our meals. Recipes and tips will be shared. This will be an opportunity to plan next year’s garden with a focus on edible flowers,” says Maurer, according to a news release from the library.
If planning to attend via Zoom, register on the events page of the library website auburnpubliclibrary.org. The Zoom link will be emailed on the day of the program, Aug. 13.
This program is part of the library’s summer reading initiative, Adventure Begins at Your Library, where adults at APL will focus on Adventures in Nature.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
For those stories that we do enable discussion, our system may hold up comments pending the approval of a moderator for several reasons, including possible violation of our guidelines. As the Maine Trust’s digital team reviews these comments, we ask for patience.
Comments are managed by our staff during regular business hours Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Comments held for moderation outside of those hours may take longer to approve.
