LEWISTON — Firefighters were on the scene of a blaze at a marijuana cultivation facility Tuesday afternoon on Bridge Street, according to officials.
The initial report around 3 p.m. brought fire crews out to 17 Bridge St., said Angelynne Amores, city spokesperson.
The building is occupied by a marijuana growing facility and initial calls on the fire reported smoke and flames in a grow room, Amores said.
The first crews to the scene discovered smoke coming from the roof of the building. All employees exited the building with no reports of injuries.
“The roof had to be cut open to ventilate the building while firefighters were extinguishing the fire,” Amores said.
Lewiston Fire Department notified the building’s owner of damage caused by firefighting procedures, so the building can be secured.
Amores said Lewiston Police Department is aware of the fire and added the area to its patrol.
Auburn Fire Department assisted the Lewiston fire crews.
