Just read the Sun Journal article that the driver of the truck that crashed on Merrow Road last year has been sentenced to prison for manslaughter for driving too fast, resulting in an accident that killed his passenger. (“Florida man to serve 3 years in prison for fatal 2023 Auburn crash,” Aug. 2).
What a sad outcome for these workers from out-of-state following Google Maps directions to get to Minot Avenue. They obviously did not know about the poor condition of this heavily traveled road.
This is not the first time someone was killed in that exact spot on Merrow Road. There’s a memorial on the same tree in the same spot to remind us of another young man who died in a similar crash — he was our neighbor.
The slight curve, on a hill, near a big tree, is clearly the deadliest part of Merrow Road, but the entire road is a disaster. We walk this shoulder-less, crumbling road, so we know its dangers.
How many more deadly accidents will it take before Merrow Road is adequately repaired?
