A 26,000 pound aviation fuel tank is moved Wednesday from the fuel farm closer to the terminal where it will become a self-serve fuel stop for general aviation pilots at the Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport. The project came in under it’s $250,000 budget and was paid for by both cities in a previous budget, according to airport board chairman Jonathan LaBonte. Chris Wheelock/Sun Journal

Crews from three companies — Simard & Sons, The Cote Company and Lakes Region Environmental — work together to position a fuel tank on a new pad by the terminal building at the Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport Wednesday. The double-walled tank weighs 26,000 pounds empty. It will be reconnected and, within a few weeks, will become a self-serve pump for general aviation pilots, giving them 24/7 access to fuel that until now they could only get between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Chris Wheelock/Sun Journal
