COLEBROOK, NH — Plans are in the works for the 33rd annual North Country Moose Festival, which takes place from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 23 in downtown Colebrook and from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 24 at the Recreation Park in Canaan, Vt. The event is sponsored by the North Country Chamber of Commerce and executive director Butch Ladd says, “I believe we’re going to have some fun!”
Friday’s downtown street fair in Colebrook will feature two bands: local favorite Rock On! starting things off at 3 p.m.; and The Maplegrove Band from Burlington, Vt., playing from 6 p.m. until the parade starts at 7:30, and again after the parade until the fireworks.
In addition to all the vendors, crafters, and food concessions, the N.H. Fish and Game, sponsors Eversource Energy and New Hampshire Electric Coop, and other first responder and law enforcement agencies will have tables. The annual quilt show will be on display at Trinity United Methodist Church on Bridge Street, and the classic cars will be lined up for viewing ahead of the parade.
The classic car parade starts at 7:30 p.m. on Main Street and this year, for the first time in a long time, families, businesses, organizations, and friends are invited to enter floats with the theme “Music Legends.” The fireworks show will take place just after 8 p.m., set off from Rick Nadig’s field off Main Street behind the Black Bear Tavern, and will be visible throughout downtown.
Saturday’s events in Canaan will also offer crafters, vendors, and food concessions, along with a maple syrup tasting, the moose-calling contest, and always a crowd favorite, the dog show. The Canaan Community Recreation Park is on Route 102 just south of the Route 114 intersection, and parking is available just across the road at the school ballfields.
Music will be provided by Retro and North Woods, and the Axe Women Loggers of Maine will provide several demonstrations throughout the day, sponsored by Cunningham Logging & Excavation. The ever-popular Cow Plop Bingo is back again this year, as well.
N.H. Fish and Game will be on site along with other agencies, Eversource Energy will be there to give bucket rides, and the Chamber is working on a few more activities to be announced.
The annual Classic Car Show, once again provided by Premier Sponsor Don Noyes Chevrolet, Martin Painting, and Cunningham Full Service Station, will be back in Canaan on Saturday, and it’s always a big hit.
The Moose Festival welcomes artisans, crafters, non-profits, and food vendors of all types from the local area, along with musicians. The registration deadline for vendors and crafters is Friday, August 12, and a vendor application is available for download at www.moosefestival.com or may be requested by calling 603-237-8939.
Sponsorship and vendor applications are also available now. The Moose Festival is a fundraiser for the North Country Chamber of Commerce, which strives to serve its members by way of business advocacy, promotion of regional attractions, and involvement in initiatives to foster economic growth.
