The Tri-County 14U all-star team, which has several players from the Oxford Hills region, opened the Babe Ruth 14-year-old World Series in Eagle Pass, Texas on Saturday with a 12-0 loss to the Alabama RawDogs 14U team in a five-inning mercy rule game.
Christian Sargent went the distance for Alabama, only allowing two hits on 11 strikeouts and walking two.
The Raw Dogs jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Camden Casarez had a two-run single while Carlos Smith scored on an error and Swayden Byrd scored on a fielder’s choice.
Grady Jordan came home on a wild pitch for a 5-0 lead for the RawDogs in the top of the fourth.
Alabama added seven more runs in the top of the fifth highlighted by Carson Blair’s two-run single.
Tri-County got two runners on in the bottom of the fifth including a Shawn West single for the team’s second hit of the game. However no runs scored to extend the game.
Jacoby Boyce had the other hit for Tri-County in the bottom of the first.
Keagan Day came in relief in the first inning and only allowed one run in 3 and 1/3 innings of work for Tri-County.
Tri-County plays again on Sunday against Australia at 12:30 p.m. in Eagle Pass.
