BYRON — First responders rescued a woman Sunday afternoon who jumped into the Swift River and injured her leg, officials said.
Rumford Fire Department Deputy Chief Mike Arsenault said area fire and rescue departments responded just before 3 p.m. for a water rescue on Swift River near the Coos Canyon Rest Area, across Route 17 from Coos Canyon Rock & Gift at 472 Swift River Road.
The unnamed female victim jumped into the river and sustained non-life-threatening injuries, Arsenault said.
First responders were able to make the rescue with ropes, he said.
Med-Care Ambulance transported the victim to a local hospital.
Arsenault said his department aided Mexico Fire Department, which was the lead responder on the rescue.
Mexico fire officials were not available for further details.
