Nolan Cavers sparked the Tri-County 14U offense in a 20-4 five-inning mercy-rule win over Keene, New Hampshire, at the 14U Babe Ruth World Series in Eagle Pass, Texas, on Monday.
Cavers finished with four hits, including a triple and a double, and five RBIs. Shawn West doubled and drove in two runs for the Oxford Hills-area team, while Finley Cavers singled and tallied two RBIs, and Ethan Godomsky, Sawyer Poland, Derrik Trybus Try and Tucker Hilden each added an RBI.
Tri-County wraps up pool play with a record of 2-1. The Maine and New England champion will play again Tuesday against an opponent yet to be determined.
Tri-County scored three in the top of the first inning, then added seven more in the second and three in the third to build a 14-0 lead.
After Tri-County added one run in the fourth, Keene scored four times in the bottom of the fourth, but Tri-County answered with five more runs.
Finley Cavers pitched two innings (four runs on one hit and four walks), Leegan Day pitched two innings (one hit, three strikeouts) and Trybus struck out one batter in his one inning on the mound.
