FARMINGTON — Three people will be interviewed Tuesday for possible appointment to the new Franklin County Opioid Settlement Advisory Committee.

Commissioners Lance Harvell of Farmington, Bob Carlton of Freeman Township and Terry Brann of Wilton will hold their regular meeting 10 a.m. at the county courthouse at 140 Main St. Applicants will be interviewed later in the day.

About $20,000 of the more than $1 million the county is expected to receive over 18 years from pharmaceutical company settlements has been distributed to help reduce opioid addiction. The committee will review applications for grants.

The five-member committee are to meet four times a year and have a nonvoting chairperson. A member will not be able to apply for a grant. If they work for an entity that is applying for a grant, they would be excluded from that round of applications, Susan Pratt, the county’s American Rescue Plan Act administrator, said previously.

In April, commissioners removed a Wilton man from the previous committee following two executive sessions with no reason given. At the same time, they decided to temporarily suspend the volunteer panel to review and revamp rules and member eligibility. Carlton agreed in April to be the commissioners’ liaison to the committee, which previously had none.

In June, commissioners accepted amended documents, including bylaws, applications, guidelines and other criteria.

Carlton, Pratt and county deputy Sgt. Ryan Close redeveloped the committee, Carlton previously said.
