CHESTERVILLE — Chesterville’s annual Family Fun Day brought the community together on Saturday, Aug. 17, for a day filled with baseball-themed festivities. Despite a drizzle early on, the event proceeded as planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with activities both indoors and outdoors.

The day began with a parade organized by Greg Soule. Participants lined up early on Zions Hill Road, and the parade set off at 9 a.m., winding down Valley Road and Dutch Gap Road before concluding at the David Archer Town Hall. A flag-raising ceremony followed shortly after the parade’s arrival. The attendees stood around the flag with their hands over their hearts.

Attendees enjoyed a variety of food options, including hamburgers and hot dogs served by the Chesterville Heritage Society, a chicken BBQ prepared by Bob Gramlich and offered by the North Chesterville Extension Homemakers, and treats from an ice cream truck The Frosty Paw.

Music was provided by the local band No Left Turn. Children were delighted by the bounce house and games on the baseball field, while the Michael Cooper Masked Marvels Children’s Show captivated audiences from 11 a.m. to noon. A petting zoo was also a hit.

Inside the hall, a craft fair ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering handmade goods from local vendors.

A special moment of the day was the surprise presentation of the Spirit of America Award to Don Oliver in recognition of his contributions to the community.

The Spirit of America Award is a tribute given to individuals, organizations, or projects for outstanding community service and volunteerism. The award is presented by the Spirit of America Foundation, a public charity established in Augusta.
