POLAND — Volunteers from the Poland Food Bank received the Grange Community Service Award from Excelsior Grange Aug. 17 at the Grange hall in Poland.
The food bank, founded by the Poland Community Church in 1988, serves 80-100 families each month that live in Mechanic Falls, Minot and Poland. They offer Thanksgiving and Christmas meal boxes and toys to anyone that may need assistance, according to a news release from Steve Verrill with the Grange.
The bank does multiple food runs to its local Hannaford and Cumberland Farms stores. These food runs provide it with fresh produce, meat and bakery items. The remainder of its food distribution is through Good Shepherd and private donations. A clothing room is open to the public on Saturdays, and proceeds help the bank continue its mission.
