TURNER — Three-time defending Class B girls state champion Jade Haylock led the Leavitt golf team to a season-opening 6.5-2.5 victory over Morse on Wednesday at Turner Highlands Golf Course.
Haylock, who this summer won the Maine Women’s Amateur and the Maine Junior girls titles, shot a match-low 39 and defeated Morse’ No. 1 player, Caleb Harvey 5&3.
In the No. 2 matchup, Leavitt’s Sophie Simard and Morse’s Tucker Walker tied. Thomas Pratt won the No. 3 match for the Hornets, outdueling Johnny Johnson III 3&2. The Shipbuilders’ Anders Savage and Gage Suitter won the No. 5 and No. 6 matches.
Leavitt finished with 177 strokes to Morse’s 192.
