Season outlook: The Eddies are excited to start the season off strong with an experienced midfield that should be able to advance the ball in the right direction. Kim Joler said the players’ passion and dedication to field hockey was evident throughout the summer, and the team is ready to showcase its skill on the field.

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER/ NYA PATRIOTS

Season outlook: The Patriots are a younger team this season, working hard to build cohesiveness on and off the field. Only losing two seniors from last year has been helpful to the starting lineup, and Leary said the team brings a lot of athleticism and eagerness to learn everyday.

LEAVITT HORNETS

Season outlook: The Hornets are continuing to work on their endurance as the team begins the season, and they are looking forward to their most competitive games. The strong senior class will be looked to as leaders on the field, and Marston said the expectations of the veterans are high. She added that the family-driven mentality of this crew will be its biggest strength and strongly impact its play, while transitioning to higher level turf play may take moments of adjustment.

LEWISTON BLUE DEVILS

The Blue Devils aim to make another playoff appearance, and Talarico said they will rely heavily on Lauren Cote, Charlotte Crowley, Valerie Potvin, Ayanay Holloman and Ava Dionne to lead the team.

LISBON GREYHOUNDS

Season outlook: The Greyhounds are coming off a rebuilding season with no seniors last year, and they return a nucleus of players with experience. They will look to build off last season, and should have more depth and speed thanks to the addition of a large, skilled and hardworking freshmen class. The goal is to improve each day and make a deeper playoff run.

MT. BLUE COUGARS

Season outlook: Mt. Blue returns some experienced players from last year’s young squad, including high scorers Kali Judkins (10 goals, 1 assist) and Lily Huntley (5 goals, 7 assists), who give speed and power to the attack. Veteran midfielders Bree Griffin (5 goals, 5 assists) and Summer Sawyer (1 goal, 3 assists) also strengthen the Cougars attacking line. Morgan Hersey will punctuate a balanced attack and Piper Wojcik and Kara Daggett lend a solid defensive unit. Gwen Lesperance, the 2023 Sun Journal All-Region Second Team goalie, looks to improve upon her freshman season during which Mt. Blue posted nine shutouts and allowed only nine goals in the regular season. The Cougars will be leaning on their veteran leadership to advance farther in the postseason than they did last year. The team’s key to success is going to be speed, and its chemistry on and off the field, Lajoie said. The Cougars have played a lot of field hockey over the summer, and are poised to be stronger than last season.

MOUNTAIN VALLEY FALCONS

Season outlook: Sirois said the future of Mountain Valley field hockey is bright, with this year’s young team having the potential to earn a spot in the Class C North postseason. The Falcons have been training and working together, intent on starting the season strong and building momentum towards a winning season record.

OAK HILL RAIDERS

Season outlook: The Raiders return most of their key players from 2023, and Fuller said that through hard work and dedication, they have grown tremendously since last season. The team expects to be a tough competitor within the conference and hopes to make a deep run in the playoffs.

OXFORD HILLS VIKINGS

Season outlook: The Vikings lost six games by one goal last season, and consequently learned the value of finishing in the circle. This season’s focus will be on individual technical skills, positional discipline, on-field communication and working as a cohesive unit. The team is looking to applying last season’s lessons in order to find success into the postseason in 2024.

POLAND KNIGHTS

Season outlook: Poland is ecstatic to have built its field hockey program numbers enough to have a full varsity and JV team for the first time in over a decade. Not only have the numbers grown, but Wax-Armstrong said the skill continues to rise through the players’ hard work. The team motto has become “mind over matter” when conditioning. Seniors captains Terra Magofna and Ruby Taylor and the other returning players are being counted on to show the younger players what leaders are. Wax-Armstrong said she is “beyond lucky to coach an amazing group of dedicated, young women.”

SPRUCE MOUNTAIN PHOENIX

ST. DOM’S SAINTS

Season outlook: The Rebels’ 11 players will see a lot of playing time, while working together to gel as a team. Wight said the four newcomers will be playing varsity games for the first time, and depth remains a weakness for the Rebels.

WINTHROP/ MARANACOOK RAMBLERS

Season outlook: While the Ramblers return the varsity roster, they will need to adjust to the loss of key midfielder Izzy Folsom, who tore her ACL and will miss the season. Winthrop was a young team last season when it claimed its third consecutive Class C title, and players are rising to bigger roles and welcoming the pressure that comes with returning a state championship roster. Coach Melissa Perkins said that pressure is a privilege.
