MECHANIC FALLS — The Town Council agreed Tuesday night to ask for community feedback on the future use of the building in the municipal complex that houses the Before & After School Center.

Amanda Bosse, director of the child day care center, informed town officials last month that the program will be moving to Elm Street in the future.

Moving the Police Department from the third floor of the municipal building at 108 Lewiston St. was mentioned, as well as housing the Historical Society or making it an all-purpose room for the Recreation Department.

The council will do a walk-through of the building Sept. 24 following the dedication ceremony of naming the Public Works Building after Scott Penney, who retired recently after 29 years of service to the town.

The public is welcome to attend the ceremony, which starts at 11 a.m., and participate in the walk-through as well.

Bosse was informed the program can stay in the building as long as it needs to.

Town Manager Vic Hodgkins told councilors the paving is done on Elm Street and its sidewalks, and a portion of North Street has been grinded and gravel has been laid. Hodgkins said paving should proceed in two to three weeks.

In other business, Chris Arsenault was appointed road commissioner and Connor Sheehy was appointed to the Budget Committee.

The council also approved opening the town clerk window at noon Nov. 6, the day after the presidential election, instead of the usual 8 a.m.
