Kobi Conant, Gray-New Gloucester, senior, QB/CB: Big-play specialist will be key to the Patriots’ success on both sides of the ball. Last year, he threw for more than 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns and ran for seven scores. He also was named first-team All-Campbell Conference and Sun Journal All-Region second team as a defensive back, as well as all-conference honorable mention as a quarterback.
Dylan Jewett, Spruce Mountain, sophomore, QB/S: This is his first year at quarterback, but he possesses raw athleticism that will give life to the Phoenix’s offense. The key for him will be adapting to the position and becoming adept at guiding the offense. Jewett was a second-team All-Campbell Conference defensive back last year and will again be an important part of Spruce’s defense.
Hunter Koskela, Telstar, junior, OL/C/DE: Put in a lot of work in the weight room, much to the excitement of coach Tim O’Connor. Koskela is one of a few “big dudes” the Rebels are counting on to open holes for the team’s playmakers.
Isaac Ormberg, Gray-New Gloucester, senior, WR/RB/LB: Multipurpose offensive threat racked up more than 700 receiving yards and seven touchdown receptions in 2023, and he should be an even bigger part of the Patriots’ attack this season. Received All-Campbell Conference honorable mention last year.
Jermare Spraggins, Spruce Mountain, Junior, OL/DL: Transferred to Spruce from Lewiston and quickly impressed the Phoenix coaching staff with his work ethic. That, combined with his power and quickness out of a three-point stance make him a big asset the Phoenix’s offensive and defensive lines.
Brody Tracy, Gray-New Gloucester, Junior, TE/LB: Expected to play an even larger role in Gray-NG’s offense after finishing last season with nearly 400 yards receiving. Tracy’s blocking also will be crucial for the Patriots, as will his play on the other side of the ball at linebacker.
Brody Walker, Telstar, senior, QB: This is his second year running the Rebels’ offense, and Telstar coach Tim O’Connor said that Walker has shown more consistency so far this season. Two of his potential weapons will be his younger brothers, sophomore Brennan and freshman Bryson.
Hunter Winslow, Telstar, senior, RB: Fast and tough runner who can spring for big gains when he gets the outside the tackle and turns the corner. Formed a formidable one-two backfield punch with Gavinn Martin last year, and with Martin’s graduation Winslow will likely carry a larger load for the Rebels’ offense.
