100 Years Ago: 1924
William R. Pattangall, democrat and Maine candidate for governor, held a gathering of 2,000 spellbound in Lewiston city hall Thursday night as he denounced the Ku Klux Klan with vigorous but quiet eloquence. He declared that Ralph O. Brewster, republican candidate for governor, had “sold himself body and soul” to the Klan; that Brewster’s letter to Edward B. Tibbetts of Bangor about the Klan was his “death-bed confession.”
50 Years Ago: 1974
The tenth anniversary of the founding of the Auburn-Lewiston Kiwaniannes was observed at the first meeting of the new season held Wednesday at the summer cottage of Mrs. Rower Morin at No Name Pond. Mrs. Howard Raithel gave a detailed report on the history of the club which has as its main purpose “to build a better community through service.”
25 Years Ago: 1999
Randall R.Chicoine has been appointed general superintendent of No.15 paper machine for Mead’s Maine Operations. He will be responsible for providing leadership to the R15 papermaking organization, improving papermaking efficiency and ensuring smooth operation of the machine.
