PORTLAND — The Travis Mills Foundation is set to host the 2024 Plane Pull on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Portland International Jetport.
Presented by Hammond Lumber Co. and hosted by Northeast Air, 45 teams will compete to pull a 45-ton FedEx plane across 20 feet of tarmac in the fastest time, according to a news release from the foundation.
“This is a unique opportunity to challenge yourself, bond with your team, and have fun while making an impact on the lives of the post-9/11 recalibrated veteran families served year-round by the Travis Mills Foundation,” said U.S. Army SSG (Ret.) Travis Mills, founder and president of the non-profit organization.
Teams are comprised of 20 pullers, but participants are encouraged to register up to 25 team members should someone have to drop out at the last minute. All teams must raise $2,500.
While the 2023 Plane Pull was canceled due to an unforeseen and statewide event, sponsors and team members raised $183,000 to support the Travis Mills Foundation mission. In 2022, 40 teams competed, raising a record-breaking $270,000.
Awards will be given to the Fastest Pull, Top Fundraiser, Most Patriotic, and the Drag Award — the slowest pull.
The family-friendly event will include food trucks, a bounce house and games of corn hole.
